As nice as it would be to just skip out on that meeting, she knows better. She knows it would be running away, and as it's related to work she has more than just a responsibility towards hearing Genesis out. For the most part she enjoys working at Club Rapier, she doesn't want to lose that. She wants to stay, if only because she'd miss seeing some of the other people there regularly.
(Reno, Angeal, even Aiichiro.)
She isn't sure about Genesis. Part of her wants to see him again, but she's doing her damnedest to not get her hopes up. She has plenty of reasons to be upset with him!
Ugh, she wishes she could jut switch her emotions off.
She comes to the meeting, but she sticks near Reno and Angeal, looking thoroughly unhappy the entire time. When the meeting ends she doesn't look any better. In fact, she looks more anxious than before, and annoyed.
She's hovering near the stage, trying to decide if this is worth it, or if she should just go hide in the dressing room until her performance.]
[Genesis had clarified a number of things at the meeting-- mostly his political views and how it will not affect how business is run at Club Rapier. Right after, though, his eyes zero in on Euri and he moves to get her alone-- off the stage and right to her.]
Let's talk in my office.
[And he'll lead her to it. As always, he'll offer her a seat while he takes his behind the desk. There's a small pot with a bunch of purple and blue cornflowers on his desk-- a curious sight because he never keeps plants in his office.
He gestures to the plant once they're seated, though.]
I got this for you. I'm sorry I wasn't able to speak with you through voice earlier.
[Euri twists her lips and follows him silently. Political views aren't at the forefront of her mind, though she isn't happy he's siding with a place that openly tortures its citizens. It's a human city, though, so the less she can be involved with that the better.
The flowers are the first thing that grab her attention and her eyes stay locked on them, wondering what exactly is going on. Genesis isn't a flower person, she knows that very well.
Thankfully that's answered once they're seated. She blinks at him, then starts chewing on her lower lip. Folding her arms, she slouches in her seat.]
Why didn't you? It hurt, not being able to talk to you.
As soon as I got to my office, I was flooded with inquiries left and right. You weren't the only one I was talking to earlier. I had also been sending messages to various regulars, backers... and discussing things with the woman who owns this building.
[Genesis does regret not stopping everything just to speak with Euri. But... business. And Euri should know by now that Genesis was the ruthless sort of man who puts his own ambitions first over everything else.]
[She knows he's always been very business oriented, but as usual she's never actually stopped and thought about what that really means. It's sinking in, now, that for him business may actually outweigh other important things.
Things like lovers and family.]
You say I'm like a sister to you, but you don't treat me like family is supposed to be treated. You expect me to go along with your whims, make me take a back seat to your business, and expect me to just roll over and accept when you decide to contradict beliefs I thought you stood for.
[She takes a deep breath, trying to keep herself calm.]
I'm sick of being treated like a pushover. Family doesn't do that to each other.
[When Genesis hears those words, he feels puzzled and it shows clearly on his face. It had always been this way with his family. He was brought up to realize that at the end of the day, ambition was first and other people second. That was how his family prospered, after all. They weren't rich for nothing.]
... I think our thoughts on family are wildly different.
[He takes a deep breath.]
I was brought up this way. Business was always first for my family. Business, ambition, lofty goals... people were always second.
Well, that's wrong! [It might be blunt, but she can't see how raising anyone that way could be considered right. It's actually frightening to her. If Witches back home considered business more important than family, Euri isn't sure she'd even be here right now. All of her extended family hates her because of what she is, but her mother always cared about her.
Her mother, who gave up working in the huge city of Mactech to raise her on a tiny farm out in the boonies of Fuggum. If she had cared about business more than her daughter....]
People should always be first! If they aren't they'll leave you. Everyone wants to feel needed, and if you don't give that to them you'll wind up completely alone!
[Genesis blinks when he hears Euri tell him that it's wrong. He knew that there were many ways to raise a family. But he had never been told that the way his father led his family was wrong. But Euri seems incredibly passionate about this.]
...
[And suddenly, it seems as if he had been silenced. The thing about winding up completely alone hits him in the chest like a hard punch. There are echoes of last night's conversation there, too. Zexion had suggested the same, but didn't drive the point of why he should do it the way Euri did. He watches Euri. And for the first time, it feels as if she knew much better than him about these things.]
['Passionate' is a good way of putting it. Family is important for any Witch - they're the only ones you're supposed to be able to really trust, aside from your spouse - and it's double so for Euri. If it wasn't for her mother she wouldn't be here.
She huffs and folds her arms, glancing away from him. Her tone gets quieter, though it's no less furious.]
No one likes to waste energy on someone who puts them behind their own selfish desires.
[Genesis nods, though Euri can't see that. He takes a deep breath, then decides that yes-- Zexion was certainly right last night. He needs to learn to put the people that matter to him first. After all, what good was a home when at the end, everyone you loved had left you?]
Euri, I'm sorry about what I had done to you.
[His tone is sincere, but not weak at all. He still has the firmness of a leader about him.]
[He's listening. That's progress, and her expression softens a little. It's hard to be mad at him when she's been so fond of him, practically ever since they first met. She can't just throw those feelings away on a whim.]
I want to know if you're still someone I can depend on. I want to know what it is you're going to put first from now on.
[Genesis takes a breath. It was easier said than done. But he had to do this. He had to make this change. After all, that was what Zexion said-- what good was a second chance if all he was going to do was throw those he cared about away again?]
I want to do my hardest to put you and everyone else I care for first.
[Genesis sighs and he feels his heart warm a lot. He didn't expect people to worry over him. Impulsively, he scoops up the small witch in a firm embrace.]
